Yes Means No

I am still having trouble digesting this Prop 8 decision in California. Maybe I am in denial but I really think people thought they were voting "yes" for upholding gay marriage and voted incorrectly. So, by mistake, Prop 8 passed. I therefore think it needs to be tabled. Am I delusional? Well, it's quite possible. I am stuck at home most days nursing and fighting thrush.

I am just as sad and confused as you are about 8. And so sorry that you are STILL having trouble with thrush!

I think they purposely word those things so that people will be confused! The Prop 8 decision is crazy -- unfortunately though I think there really are a lot of people that oppose gay marriage.

Yeah, they say minorities turned out big for Prop 8. How interesting is that?! Time will eventually turn it around, though, since it really comes down to a basic civil rights issue.

It IS really interesting that minorities turned out big for Prop 8. I think the religious component figured heavily for minorities, especially African Americans from what I've heard. I really find this so fascinating.

Actually, blacks came in about 50-50 and younger Hispanics were largely opposed to 8 while older Hispanics tended toward it. I think it was a religious divide more than a racial one - though I do not deny that the religious advertising for 8 largely targeted minorities.

OMG I think the SAME thing!! My SIL, who LIVES in California, kept getting it swapped when she was telling me about it (ex: "I don't know ANYONE who voted 'no' on Prop 8"---when she meant she didn't know anyone who voted yes), and I kept getting it confused, too. I think because a lot of former legislation has been to ALLOW gay marriage, and so Proposition 8 sounds like something to ALLOW gay marriage, so you'd want to vote YES.

Yeah, I think we should do a re-vote. I think Cali would get it right the second time around.
